Nigeria Becomes Top African Oil Supplier to U.S. in 2025
Nigeria has emerged as the leading African supplier of crude oil to the United States in 2025, strengthening its position in the transatlantic oil trade.
Between January and August 2025, the United States imported over 33 million barrels of Nigerian crude, representing more than half of all African oil shipments to the country during that period. This outpaced other major African exporters, including Angola, Libya, and Ghana.
Although total African oil exports to the U.S. in 2025, there are slight declines compared to previous years, and Nigeria remains the continent’s top contributor. Analysts attribute this dominance to Nigeria’s consistent production levels and the high demand for its crude among the U.S. refiners.
The country’s leading role in oil exports not only provides significant foreign exchange earnings but also reinforces its influence in global energy markets.
