NAF Hails Pilots’ Bravery After Alpha Jet Crash in Niger State
The Nigerian Air Force has praised the courage and quick thinking of two Alpha Jet pilots who safely ejected after their aircraft encountered a serious in-flight emergency and crashed in Niger State.
The incident occurred during a routine post-inspection functional check flight at NAF Base Kainji, where the jet reportedly developed a sudden malfunction shortly after take-off.
According to NAF sources, the pilots acted swiftly, steering the aircraft away from populated areas before ejecting. Their actions ensured that no civilians were harmed, and both officers survived the crash.
They were immediately taken to a medical facility for routine evaluation.
The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, visited the pilots at the hospital, commending their professionalism and calm response under pressure.
He noted that their conduct reflected the high level of training and discipline within the Air Force.
In a follow-up statement, NAF described the pilots’ actions as “exceptional bravery,” assuring Nigerians that safety protocols remain a top priority for the service.
The Air Chief has also ordered the immediate constitution of a Board of Inquiry to determine the exact cause of the in-flight emergency and to recommend measures to prevent similar incidents.
While the aircraft was completely lost, the Air Force emphasized that preserving lives—both military and civilian—remains central to its operations. Investigations are ongoing, and further details are expected once the inquiry submits its findings.
