Macron Pledges France’s Support to Nigeria Amid Rising Terrorism Threats

French President Emmanuel Macron has reaffirmed France’s solidarity with Nigeria as the country continues to grapple with escalating security challenges, particularly persistent terrorist activities in its northern regions.

In a statement posted on X on Sunday, Macron said he spoke directly with Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, pledging to deepen cooperation with Nigerian authorities and expand support for communities affected by violence.

“No one can remain a bystander,” Macron said, emphasizing the urgent need for collective international action to tackle the crisis.

He added that France would strengthen its partnership with Nigerian authorities and enhance assistance to populations impacted by insecurity.

The French leader also called on other global partners to intensify their engagement in combating terrorism and supporting affected communities.

“At his request, we will strengthen our partnership with the authorities and our support for the affected populations. We call on all our partners to step up their engagement,” Macron stated.

The announcement comes amid growing concerns over the security situation in Nigeria’s northern states, where terrorist groups have continued to carry out attacks on civilians, government institutions, and security forces.

Analysts say international cooperation is critical to bolstering Nigeria’s counter-terrorism efforts and addressing the humanitarian impact of the violence.

Nigeria’s government has welcomed Macron’s pledge, noting that collaboration with international partners is vital to restoring peace and stability in affected regions.
