APC Disqualifies Omisore, Six Others Ahead of Osun Governorship Primary

The race for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket in Osun State has taken a dramatic turn after the party’s screening committee disqualified former National Secretary of the party, Senator Iyiola Omisore, alongside six other aspirants.

Only two contenders were cleared to participate in the December 13 primary.

The committee, chaired by Obinna Uzoh, announced that the disqualified aspirants failed to meet key constitutional and guideline requirements, particularly the provision demanding sponsorship by at least five fully registered and financially up-to-date party members from each Local Government Area in the state.

This rule, the committee said, is outlined in Articles 9.3(i) and 31.2(ii) of the APC constitution, as well as Paragraph 6(c) of the 2025 primary guidelines.

Those barred from the race include Iyiola Omisore, Babatunde Haketer Oralusi, Oyedotun Babayemi, Dr. Akinade Ogunbiyi, Benedict Olugboyega Alabi, Adegoke Rasheed Adekunle, and Babajide Omoworare.

Their disqualification followed a petition lodged by a faction known as the Osun APC Renewal Group, which questioned the authenticity of some nomination documents submitted by various aspirants.

The panel said the petition raised “weighty and substantial concerns” that warranted deeper scrutiny.

At the end of the exercise, only two aspirants — Mulikat Abiola Jimoh and Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji — were deemed fully compliant and cleared to contest.

The development adds a new layer of tension within the Osun APC, especially with Omisore’s exclusion, given his influence within the party both at the state and national levels. Party insiders believe the affected aspirants may head to the National Working Committee to appeal the decision, a process permitted under APC rules.

Amid the controversy, the screening committee urged the party leadership to activate reconciliation measures to prevent the crisis from widening, warning that divisions within the Osun chapter could affect the credibility of the primary election.

With the field now narrowed to just two contenders, all eyes will be on the party’s next moves — including possible appeals — ahead of what is shaping up to be a pivotal primary for the APC in Osun State.
