Seven Suspected Bandits Apprehended on Benin–Agbor Highway
Security operatives in Edo State have detained seven young men suspected of involvement in bandit activities during a stop‑and‑search operation along the busy Benin–Agbor Road.
The arrests took place on the evening of 2 December 2025, shortly after the suspects disembarked from a truck.
Authorities reported that the suspects’ mobile phones contained multiple photographs showing assault rifles, including what appeared to be an AK‑47. These images heightened suspicion about the group’s intentions.
During questioning, the suspects — all reportedly of Fulani origin — stated they were travelling from Adamawa State. They were unable to provide a clear explanation for the presence of the incriminating photos or justify their journey.
Security agencies are now working to recover any actual firearms, verify the images, and determine if the individuals are connected to recent incidents of banditry or kidnappings in the region.
Officials have urged motorists, travellers, and residents along the highway to remain alert. They warned that the arrests might uncover a broader network and encouraged the public to report any suspicious activities.
This operation forms part of a broader security effort in Edo State, where authorities have increased patrols and inspections along key routes in response to rising reports of armed robbery and kidnappings.
While the identities and charges of the seven suspects are yet to be formally announced, their detention highlights ongoing efforts to combat criminal activity along major transportation corridors. Residents and travellers are being advised to cooperate with law enforcement and remain vigilant as investigations continue.
