Turaki-Led PDP National Working Committee Formalises Expulsion of Wike, Fayose, Anyanwu, Others

In a decisive move aimed at consolidating discipline within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the party’s newly constituted National Working Committee (NWC), led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, has formally issued certificates of expulsion to 11 senior members, including former Rivers State Governor and current FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, and ex-National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu.

The expulsions, announced at the PDP national secretariat in Abuja, were officially linked to allegations of anti-party activities, sabotage, and persistent dissent against party directives.

Turaki’s NWC emphasized that the measures are part of a broader effort to enforce internal discipline and maintain the integrity of party structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The expulsion certificates have been dispatched to the affected individuals via courier, effectively allowing them to join other political parties without violating PDP rules.

Other notable figures on the expulsion list include former National Organizing Secretary Umar Bature, former National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), former Board of Trustees Chairman Dan Orbih, and several zonal and state-level leaders.

The decision follows a controversial PDP convention held on November 15, 2025, in Ibadan, where the party dissolved certain state and zonal structures, paving the way for Turaki’s election as national chairman.

Turaki stated that the party’s strength lies in its committed membership rather than a few prominent individuals, underscoring the non-negotiable nature of adherence to party directives.

While the leadership lauds the action as necessary to safeguard party unity, critics argue that expelling high-profile members risks deepening internal divisions and could have political repercussions, especially in states where the affected leaders maintain significant influence.

The development marks a critical moment in PDP politics as the party prepares for upcoming elections, signaling both a crackdown on dissent and a reassertion of centralized authority within the party.
