Edo Assembly Summons Natasha Over Viral Altercation Video With 2Baba

The Edo State House of Assembly has directed Hon. Natasha Irobosa Osawaru, member representing Egor constituency, to appear before its Ethics and Privileges Committee within one week, following a widely circulated video of her and her husband, renowned musician Innocent “2Baba” Idibia.

The controversy stemmed from footage that emerged online showing the pair in a tense public interaction inside a store abroad.

In the clip, Osawaru can be heard confronting her spouse, leading to intense discussions across social networks about the responsibility of elected officials to maintain decorum in and outside their official roles.

During the House session, Speaker Blessing Agbebaku addressed the issue, expressing concern that the behaviour displayed in the video could reflect negatively on the institution.

He emphasized that lawmakers are expected to uphold standards of personal conduct that safeguard the reputation of the legislature.

The Ethics and Privileges Committee has been tasked with reviewing the incident and determining whether Osawaru’s actions breached parliamentary codes of conduct or general expectations of public office.

Members of the Assembly underscored that the inquiry is not about prying into private relationships but safeguarding the integrity of the House.

Osawaru has yet to make a public statement responding to the summons. Sources within the Assembly indicate that the upcoming committee session may include interviews, witness statements, and formal assessments of the video’s context and public impact.

Political observers note that the case highlights the evolving challenges of the digital age, where personal moments captured on camera can rapidly become matters of public concern.

The outcome of the committee’s review could set a precedent for how future behavioural controversies involving public officials are handled.

The Egor representative, previously known for her energetic engagement with constituents and high-profile visibility alongside her husband, now faces scrutiny that could influence her standing within the Assembly and possibly shape public opinion ahead of future political developments.
