Seven Cameroonians Arrested in Benue Over Alleged Cross-Border Crimes
Security personnel in Benue State have detained seven foreign nationals suspected of links to criminal operations along the Nigeria–Cameroon border.
The arrests were made on Monday in Imande-Agbatse, a border community where residents had raised concerns about increasing cross-border security threats.
According to local accounts, youths in the community intercepted the men during the early hours of the day after observing their movement and becoming suspicious of their activities. The individuals were subsequently handed over to security operatives for further scrutiny.
Those arrested have been identified as Titakung Cyril Gadinga, Nuvi Clifford Babila, Foyabo Godwin Nuvi T, Doh Collins Dobgima, Basil Smith, Dama Kenneth Babila, and Dingana Emmanuel, all of whom are said to be Cameroonian nationals.
Community members accused the group of involvement in banditry and of allegedly supporting criminal networks that operate across the border corridor.
Officials say the suspects are currently being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), where they are undergoing detailed profiling and interrogation.
Security sources maintain that the state remains stable, noting that ongoing investigations will determine the extent of the suspects’ roles, if any, in the reported cross-border criminal activities.
Authorities have also reiterated their commitment to safeguarding border communities and improving intelligence collaboration with residents.
