One Killed, Dozens Abducted as Bandits Launch Multiple Attacks in Zurmi, Bungudu LGAs in Zamfara
Armed bandits launched a string of coordinated assaults across Zamfara State between Sunday night and Monday afternoon, leaving one person dead and dozens abducted in Zurmi and Bungudu Local Government Areas, according to security sources.
The first attack occurred at about 10:40 p.m. on November 30, when gunmen invaded Tungar Tsamiya in Moriki District, Zurmi LGA.
The attackers shot and killed one resident before abducting 10 others, forcing security personnel to begin a search-and-rescue mission in the area.
Hours later, on Monday morning, another armed group struck Doguwar Gona forest, also in Moriki District.
The bandits seized 17 men and women who had gone to the area to gather firewood.
Security operatives are currently tracking the movement of the assailants as part of ongoing efforts to secure the victims’ release.
A separate incident unfolded in Makwa village of Kurar Mota District in Bungudu LGA at about 12:15 p.m. on December 1.
Gunmen armed with AK-47 rifles stormed the community and abducted an unspecified number of residents, further heightening tensions across the region.
Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA, police personnel, and local vigilante groups have intensified rescue operations and tightened security in the affected areas.
Authorities say efforts are underway to restore calm as search operations continue.
