Isak Scores First Premier League Goal as Liverpool Defeat West Ham 2–0

Alexander Isak finally opened his Premier League account for Liverpool as the struggling Reds sealed a morale-boosting 2–0 victory over West Ham United at the London Stadium on Sunday.

The Swedish striker, signed for a British-record £125 million from Newcastle in September, had been under intense pressure after going five league matches without a goal.

His drought ended in the 32nd minute when he pounced inside the area to guide home a composed finish, giving Liverpool a crucial lead in a match they desperately needed to win.

Isak’s goal was only his second in 11 appearances across all competitions for the Reds the first coming in the League Cup against Southampton but his breakthrough in the Premier League offered a significant confidence boost for both player and team.

The game also featured a number of physical battles, including a moment when Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté clashed with West Ham’s Senegalese defender El Hadji Malick Diouf. Despite contact in the box, the referee waved away appeals, allowing play to continue.

Liverpool sealed the win deep into stoppage time when Cody Gakpo finished off a swift counterattack, securing the club’s first victory in four matches across all competitions.

Speaking after the match, Liverpool manager Arne Slot admitted the win was much needed following a difficult run.

“There’s definitely a feeling of relief because if you have lost so many times, winning is important.

We hardly conceded a chance and we were able to create chances ourselves,”
Arne Slot, Liverpool manager

The result lifts Liverpool’s spirits as they look to regain momentum heading into the busy winter fixture schedule, while West Ham’s inconsistency continues to trouble their push for a top-half position.
