Major Fire Razes Over 500 Stalls at Shuwaki Market in Kano
A major fire outbreak on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, destroyed a significant portion of the Shuwaki Market in the Gari Local Government Area of Kano State.
The Kano State Fire Service confirmed that approximately 529 temporary stalls were completely destroyed by the blaze.
The fire started at about 3:25 p.m. Firefighters arrived to find a large section of the market, which originally contained about 1,000 temporary stalls, engulfed in flames.
Fortunately, the statement issued by the Fire Service Public Relations Officer, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, confirmed that no injuries or loss of life were reported.
Firefighters were able to successfully contain the blaze, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the market.
Preliminary information gathered by the emergency team suggests the fire was triggered by individuals allegedly under the influence of alcohol within the market area.
The Kano State Fire Service has urged residents to enhance their vigilance and strictly avoid activities that could increase the risk of fire outbreaks, especially in densely packed commercial centres.
