Adamawa State Officials Clamp Down on Sanitation Defaulters Amid Poor Compliance

Officials of the Adamawa State Government on Saturday intensified enforcement of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise, clamping down on traders and artisans who defied the restriction on movement to carry out their businesses.

The last Saturday of every month is designated for the environmental cleanup, during which movement is restricted between 7:00 am and 10:00 am to encourage residents to clean their surroundings.

To enforce compliance during the latest exercise, members of the Adamawa State Monthly Sanitation Committee toured parts of the state capital, Yola. The committee seized items from numerous defaulters, including

* Seizing utensils from roadside food vendors.

* Extinguishing cooking fires used by bean cake fryers.

* Scattering tables used by other traders displaying their wares.

The crackdown targeted communities in the Yola North Local Government Area, including Jambutu, Wauro Jabbe, Bachure, Jimeta By-pass, and Nasarawo.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Mrs. Syngana Dadah, lamented the noticeable decline in residents’ enthusiasm and participation, as many continued to operate businesses despite the official restriction.

She pledged that her ministry, in collaboration with the enforcement committee, would intensify efforts to educate the public on the importance of the exercise and encourage higher compliance.

Similarly, the Chief Executive Officer of the Adamawa State Environmental Protection Agency, Dr. Umar Ibrahim, suggested that a house-to-house awareness campaign would be implemented to promote better participation in the monthly exercise.
