IGP Explains Absence of Arrests During Kwara Rescue Operation, Prioritises Safe Return of Victims

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has clarified why no suspects were apprehended during the recent rescue of abducted victims in Kwara State, stressing that the primary focus of the Nigeria Police Force during such operations is the safe recovery of victims rather than immediate pursuit of the perpetrators.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, the IGP said rescue missions are carefully executed to avoid any action that could endanger the lives of those being held captive.

“When individuals are abducted and taken into captivity, our first concern is the rescue and safe return of those victims to their families,” he explained.

“The Kwara incident is not the first time we have adopted this approach. Ensuring that the victims come out alive is always the top priority.”

He noted that while arrests remain important, tactical teams are often required to suspend aggressive engagement when victims are in close proximity to their captors, as any miscalculation could jeopardize the rescue.

The IGP assured Nigerians that investigations are ongoing, and efforts to track down the suspects behind the Kwara incident have been intensified.

He added that the Force relies on intelligence gathering, community cooperation, and inter-agency coordination to identify and apprehend those responsible.

He also reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to safeguarding lives, strengthening security response systems across states, and preventing future occurrences.

Residents were encouraged to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies to support ongoing efforts to curb crime nationwide.
