Bauchi Governor Presents ₦878bn 2026 Budget, Prioritises Infrastructure and Project Completion
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, on Thursday presented a proposed ₦878 billion budget for the 2026 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly, emphasising infrastructure development, project continuity and tighter fiscal discipline.
The 2026 Appropriation Bill allocates 65 percent to capital expenditure and 35 percent to recurrent expenditure, a distribution the governor said reflects his administration’s determination to stimulate economic growth and enhance service delivery across the state.
Governor Mohammed explained that the budget was designed to consolidate ongoing projects while initiating new ones that address pressing developmental needs. He added that the government had taken deliberate steps to cut non-essential overhead costs to ensure efficient utilisation of public funds.
Providing a sectoral breakdown, the governor said the Economic Sector received the largest share, with over ₦400 billion amounting to more than 49 percent of the entire budget.
The Social Sector followed with more than ₦300 billion allocated to education, healthcare, water supply and other social services.
He noted that the Administration Sector was allotted over ₦120 billion to strengthen governance and public service institutions, while the Law and Justice Sector received ₦12 billion aimed at supporting judicial operations and security-related services.
The governor said the proposed spending aligns with the state’s long-term development plan and is expected to improve welfare, expand economic opportunities and sustain growth.
The State House of Assembly assured that the proposed budget would receive careful legislative scrutiny in accordance with established procedures.
