Customs Promotes 13 Senior Officers, Rewards 10 for Exceptional Service
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has approved major management appointments and special promotions aimed at strengthening leadership capacity and improving operational efficiency across its formations.
The approvals were made during the 64th Regular Meeting of the Nigeria Customs Service Board (NCSB), held on Tuesday and chaired by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun.
The meeting resulted in one of the most significant leadership reshuffles within the Service in recent years, with the Board confirming the elevation of five Deputy Comptroller-Generals and eight Assistant Comptroller-General.
In addition, 10 officers were honoured with special promotions for exceptional performance.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Customs spokesperson Abdullahi Maiwada explained that the decisions were aligned with the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023, and the Federal Character principles outlined in Section 14(4) of the Constitution.
He noted that the appointments were also necessitated by the retirement of several senior officers, making it essential to fill critical leadership gaps.
According to the statement, the newly appointed Deputy Comptroller-Generals are Baba Imam from the North-East, Isah Umar and Tijjani Abe from the North-West, Timi Bomodi from the South-South, and Oluyomi Adebakin from the South-West.
Their selection reflects the Service’s adherence to statutory provisions and the Federal Government’s Federal Character Policy.
Maiwada added that the Board also considered the outstanding contributions of 10 personnel who demonstrated exceptional diligence in revenue generation, enforcement duties, and operational professionalism.
These officers received special promotions and commendations in recognition of their service.
Minister Wale Edun reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fostering a culture of merit, discipline and excellence within the public service.
He expressed confidence that the newly promoted officers would bring renewed energy and strategic direction to the Nigeria Customs Service.
With these appointments and recognitions, the Service is expected to enhance its efficiency in trade facilitation, border security and anti-smuggling operations as it continues to implement reform measures aligned with national economic goals.
