Peter Obi Faults FG for Prioritising Politics Over People Amid Rising Insecurity
Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has criticised the Federal Government for prioritising political interests over the safety and wellbeing of Nigerians, amid escalating insecurity across the country.
Obi, speaking in a public statement, said the government has continued to focus on partisan battles instead of urgently addressing the widespread crises affecting citizens. He expressed concern that insecurity has persisted because leaders are more concerned about political control than national stability. According to him, Nigerians are confronted daily with threats ranging from kidnappings to violent attacks, yet federal authorities appear more occupied with political manoeuvring than with implementing comprehensive solutions. Obi described the situation as unacceptable, insisting that the protection of lives should be the government’s primary responsibility. He urged leaders to adopt a people-centred approach and take bold, coordinated steps to restore safety nationwide. He also called for stronger collaboration between security agencies, investment in intelligence-driven operations, and genuine engagement with communities affected by violence. Obi’s remarks come at a time when several states are grappling with rising incidents of banditry, abductions and attacks on civilians — concerns that have dominated national discussions over the past weeks. The Federal Government is yet to officially respond to his comments, but political observers note that Obi’s criticism aligns with growing public frustration over the deteriorating security environment. As insecurity remains a key national challenge, Obi reiterated that Nigeria cannot afford leadership that chooses “politics over people” when lives continue to be lost.
