Taraba Government Sends Relief Aid to IDPs After Weeks Takum Violent Attacks

The Taraba State Emergency Management Agency (TSEMA) on Sunday distributed relief items to Internally Displaced Persons in Kufai Ahmadu and Chanchanji communities of Takum Local Government Area, following a series of violent assaults that have forced thousands from their homes.

The Chanchanji area has witnessed severe destruction in the past month, with reports indicating that more than 70 people have been killed, over 300 houses burnt, and at least 3,000 families displaced in attacks attributed to armed herders.

During the distribution of materials, the Executive Secretary of TSEMA, Echuseh Audu, said the initiative formed part of the state government’s ongoing humanitarian efforts to ease the suffering of victims.

He noted that the agency remained committed to ensuring that affected communities receive timely assistance, stressing that the intervention reflects Governor Agbu Kefas’ Five-Point Agenda, which prioritises citizen welfare and community support.

At the IDP camps, the Chairman of Takum Local Government Council, Benjamin Bako—accompanied by the Commander of the 6 Brigade Jalingo, Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa—hailed the relief effort as both immediate and impactful.

Bako praised Governor Kefas and TSEMA for what he described as a swift show of compassion for the displaced residents.

“This gesture reflects Governor Agbu Kefas and the state government’s dedication to supporting vulnerable communities and promoting peace and stability across Taraba State,” Bako said.

The relief distribution comes as authorities continue efforts to restore calm in the affected areas and provide long-term recovery support for displaced families.
