Sponsors of Banditry Aim to Destabilise Tinubu Govt., Says Kalu

Former governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu has claimed that the violent attacks, killings, and mass abductions occurring across Nigeria are politically motivated and are being sponsored by powerful forces seeking to destabilize President Bola Tinubu’s administration ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, the former Abia State Governor asserted that what Nigerians are witnessing is “always a routine, something that goes with the elections,” where individuals try to pressure the government in power.

Kalu specifically alleged that the bandits and terrorists are being:

* Sponsored by politicians who want Tinubu to fail, similar to what they allegedly did to former President Goodluck Jonathan.

* Orchestrated by some members of the international community and local people who “really want to destabilise the government.”

He said the intelligence community is aware of the people behind the attacks, stating: “These people are partially missionaries bought by politicians… These people are people centred to destabilise the President who is ready to fight for our economy.”

Kalu also linked the surge in attacks to recent international comments, including those made by President Donald Trump about killings in Nigeria.

He did not, however, disclose the names of the alleged sponsors.

Despite the security challenges, Senator Kalu expressed confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership, pointing to the President’s recent actions:

* Cancelled Engagements: Tinubu cancelled his trip to the G20 summit in South Africa to focus entirely on the security situation at home.

* Active Monitoring: Kalu noted that Tinubu is having “sleepless nights” and is fully focused on the issue, stating: “The government is making every effort to make sure these people are recovered.”

* VIP Withdrawal: Kalu supported Tinubu’s decision to withdraw police officers attached to Very Important Persons (VIPs), which is intended to boost security personnel in the frontline.

The Senator concluded by urging Nigeria to work together with the United States to make things work.
