38 Abducted Eruku CAC, Kwara Worshippers Regain Freedom
Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has confirmed the release of 38 abducted worshippers of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Eruku, in the Ekiti Local Government Area of the state. The victims regained their freedom on Sunday following their kidnapping during a recent attack on the church.
Governor AbdulRazaq attributed the successful rescue to “intense collaboration” among security agencies and government authorities, giving high praise to President Bola Tinubu for his direct involvement.
The Governor specifically stated that President Tinubu personally led efforts to secure the release of the abducted persons and cancelled his scheduled trip to the G20 meeting in South Africa to focus on the security breaches in both Kwara and Kebbi States.
The President also ordered increased security deployments to the affected areas, including the deployment of four additional tactical teams from the Nigeria Police Force to Kwara State.
The Governor extended appreciation to the following agencies for their role in the operation:
* Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA)
* Department of State Services (DSS)
* Nigerian Army
* Nigeria Intelligence Agency (NIA)
* Nigeria Police Force (NPF)
The abduction occurred during a prayer service at the CAC, Eruku, on a Tuesday evening (November 18, 2025).
The assailants reportedly stormed the church, resulting in the killing of three worshippers and the abduction of an initial count of 35 people, which was later confirmed by the church to be 38, including a pastor.
The incident was strongly condemned by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), which described the attack as “heartbreaking and sad.”
