Zulum Calls for Statewide Fasting, Prayers on Monday Due to Security Concerns

Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has declared Monday as a day of voluntary fasting and prayer across the state, urging residents to seek divine intervention as Borno faces a resurgence of terrorist activities.

In a statewide broadcast delivered on Saturday, Governor Zulum encouraged citizens to remain calm, steadfast, and united, stressing that spiritual reflection and collective supplication are vital during challenging times.

“This is a difficult period for our state. I call on all residents regardless of tribe or religious affiliation to join in voluntary fasting and prayer on Monday as we seek Allah’s guidance and protection,” Zulum said.

The governor assured the public that his administration remains firmly committed to restoring lasting peace, strengthening security operations, and improving the welfare of all citizens.

He also reaffirmed the government’s support for farmers, noting that boosting agricultural productivity is key to strengthening food security and rebuilding livelihoods affected by the conflict.

Zulum appealed to religious leaders, traditional rulers, and community stakeholders to support the spiritual initiative and continue promoting unity among residents.

The governor noted that over a decade of conflict had resulted in significant displacement across all 27 local government areas, severely affecting economic activities, education, and social life.

Despite these setbacks, he commended the resilience and determination of Borno’s people.

According to him, the relative peace enjoyed in many parts of the state today is the result of the collective efforts of citizens, who have continuously supported the armed forces and security agencies in the fight against insurgency.

“Our strength has always been in our unity. We confronted our challenges together, putting aside ethnic, religious, and sectional differences. This unity must be maintained,” he said.

The statewide call for fasting and prayer comes as security agencies intensify operations to curb new threats in vulnerable communities, with the government promising continued collaboration to safeguard lives and property.
