Nasarawa Police Debunk Rumoured School Abduction, Say Pupils Mistook Hunters for Kidnappers

The Nasarawa State Police Command has refuted viral reports claiming that armed men stormed St. Peter’s Academy in Rukubi, Doma Local Government Area, and abducted two pupils during school activities.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, described the circulating reports as “false, misleading, and capable of causing unnecessary panic among residents.”

According to Nansel, the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, ordered the immediate deployment of a joint team of police officers and military personnel to the community after receiving an unverified alert suggesting that two pupils had been whisked away by unknown armed men while they were on the school field for sports.

“Upon thorough investigation, it was discovered that no abduction took place,” Nansel said. “Preliminary findings revealed that the pupils raised the alarm after sighting local hunters carrying dane guns, mistaking them for kidnappers.”

The headmistress of the school also confirmed the police account, stating that none of the students was missing and that the panic stemmed from fear triggered by the presence of hunters who were passing through the area.

She commended security agencies for their swift response, noting that their quick arrival helped calm tension among parents and community members who had rushed to the school following the rumour.

The police urged residents to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information, stressing that such false alarms create unnecessary fear and could disrupt public order.

CP Mohammed reiterated the command’s commitment to safeguarding schools and communities across the state, assuring the public that surveillance and patrols around vulnerable areas have been intensified.
