FTAN, NTDA Strengthen Ties, Plan Joint Global Marketing of Nigeria’s Tourism Assets

The Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN) and the Nigerian Tourism Development Authority (NTDA) have reaffirmed their commitment to a renewed strategic partnership aimed at advancing the nation’s tourism industry. Both organisations have agreed to deepen collaboration through coordinated programmes, including the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will focus on the joint promotion of Nigeria across international platforms.

The agreement emerged during a courtesy visit by FTAN’s leadership, headed by its President, Dr. Aliyu Badaki, to the NTDA Director General, Olayiwola Awakan, who recently assumed office.

Badaki noted that the visit was designed to reinforce cooperation and accelerate initiatives that would stimulate growth within the tourism value chain.

He commended NTDA for maintaining a productive relationship with FTAN over the years, expressing optimism that the arrival of the new DG would usher in a more robust and innovative phase of partnership.

According to him, both bodies are poised to explore new opportunities that will benefit the industry and elevate Nigeria’s visibility globally.

A key part of their renewed collaboration is the upcoming Nigeria Tourism Investors Forum and Exhibition (NTIFE), scheduled for November 28, 2025, in Abuja.

Badaki informed the NTDA boss that he has been invited to the event as a Special Guest of Honour, noting that NTIFE remains one of the sector’s most important platforms for investment engagement.

Speaking further, FTAN’s First Deputy President, Mrs. Susan Akporiaye, stressed the organisation’s readiness to lead Nigeria’s visibility drive on the international stage. She explained that the MoU between FTAN and NTDA—expected to be signed during NTIFE 2025 after NTDA’s review—would formalise joint marketing efforts and ensure a unified approach to promoting the country’s tourism offerings.

Akporiaye also emphasised the significance of having physical representation at major global travel fairs and exhibitions. She proposed the formation of a joint committee between both bodies to guarantee early preparations, coordinated planning and effective execution of agreed promotional strategies.

In his response, NTDA DG Awakan expressed gratitude for the visit and acknowledged his longstanding relationship with FTAN.

He assured the delegation of his commitment to strengthening public–private sector collaboration, adding that his tenure would prioritise initiatives that reflect the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Awakan affirmed that NTDA is ready to work closely with FTAN to build a stronger, more globally competitive tourism industry.
