Police Arrest Fake Surgeon Who Assaulted Woman He Met on Snapchat

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old man, Victor Cletus, for allegedly impersonating a medical doctor to defraud and sexually assault a young woman who sought his help over a health concern.

Investigators said Cletus, who projected himself online as a surgeon, actually works as a cleaner at the Babcock University Teaching Hospital in Ilishan-Remo.

The victim told police she met him on Snapchat and, trusting his claims, disclosed that she had discovered a lump in her right breast.

Cletus allegedly demanded money as a supposed surgical fee and instructed her to meet him last Tuesday for an operation.

Police said he neither offered medical care nor conducted any procedure. Instead, he allegedly assaulted her sexually, withdrew money from her Opay account, and repeatedly pressured her for sexual intimacy.

Police spokesperson Omolola Odutola confirmed the arrest, noting that the case followed a formal complaint by the survivor.

She said, “The arrest followed a distressing report lodged by the victim, who narrated how the suspect contacted her on Snapchat and falsely presented himself as a surgeon at Babcock University Teaching Hospital. Believing his fabricated credentials, she confided in him about a medical concern involving a lump in her right breast.

“Taking advantage of her vulnerability, the suspect fraudulently demanded an unspecified amount of money as a supposed operation fee and deceitfully instructed her to meet him for a surgical procedure on 18/11/2025. Instead of offering any medical help, he sexually abused her and also stole money from her Opay account.”

Odutola urged young women to exercise caution on social media, warning that online criminals frequently adopt fake identities to deceive and exploit unsuspecting victims.

The Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, condemned the incident and warned impostors and online predators that the Command would not tolerate any form of exploitation, deception, or sexual violence against women.
