FG Appoints 2Face Idibia as National Fire Safety Ambassador

The Federal Government has appointed music legend and humanitarian, Innocent “2Face” Idibia, as Nigeria’s National Fire Safety Ambassador, a move aimed at driving a nationwide shift toward preventive safety and behavioural change.

The announcement was made at the closing ceremony of the 2025 National Fire Safety Week in Abuja, where the Federal Fire Service (FFS) unveiled a renewed public-education campaign targeting households, schools, markets and workplaces. Officials described the appointment of 2Face as a strategic step to leverage his influence and reach millions of Nigerians who often underestimate the dangers of fire outbreaks.

According to the FFS, many communities still operate under the belief that fire disasters are a distant possibility. The new campaign, themed “Building a Culture of Fire Safety Across Nigeria: Overcoming the ‘Not My Portion’ Mentality,” seeks to challenge that mindset by pushing for practical, everyday measures that prevent emergencies before they occur.

As Fire Safety Ambassador, 2Face will serve as the face of the national campaign, leading awareness drives, participating in community sensitisation, engaging schools and marketplaces, and amplifying safety messages across media platforms.

The Fire Service believes his involvement will help make fire-safety information more accessible and relatable, especially to younger Nigerians.

Activities marking the safety week included roadshows, live emergency demonstrations, school outreach and recognition of institutions that have excelled in risk reduction and compliance. Officials said the new partnership with the award-winning musician signals a shift from reactive firefighting to sustained public prevention.

2Face, known for his long-standing involvement in humanitarian work, welcomed the appointment and pledged to use his platform to support life-saving education. The government hopes the initiative will reduce the rising toll of fire incidents nationwide and foster a culture of vigilance in homes and public spaces.
