NDDC Activates Free Medical Outreach for Ondo Residents
The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has rolled out a comprehensive free medical outreach for residents of Ondo State, marking another major step in its efforts to expand access to quality healthcare and improve living conditions across its mandate areas The programme, currently ongoing at the State Specialist Hospital and the Mother and Child Hospital in Akure, offers a wide range of medical services at no cost to beneficiaries.
These include surgical procedures, ophthalmology care, dental treatments, laboratory tests, routine screenings for conditions such as hypertension and diabetes, mental-health sensitisation, and the provision of essential medications According to the Commission, the intervention forms part of its broader commitment to strengthening community health and easing the financial burden on vulnerable households who often struggle to access proper medical care Speaking during the launch of the programme on Tuesday, the Deputy Director of the NDDC’s Ondo State Office, Mr. Kunle Karaki, said the initiative was being implemented in partnership with Pro-Health International, a long-standing medical mission organisation. He noted that the collaboration was aimed at ensuring that residents benefit from specialised medical expertise and comprehensive treatment Karaki added that the outreach aligns with the Commission’s mandate to enhance human welfare in the Niger Delta and to deliver impactful social interventions capable of addressing urgent health needs Residents have continued to turn out in large numbers, with many expressing appreciation for what they described as timely and life-changing medical support. The NDDC, meanwhile, reaffirmed its readiness to sustain such programmes as part of its long-term strategy to promote healthier communities across the region.
