FG Deploys Full Security Machinery to Defeat Terrorism, Says Information Minister

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to combating terrorism, banditry, and insurgency across Nigeria, declaring that it has deployed the nation’s full security machinery to eliminate the threats.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, made the statement while outlining the government’s multi-pronged approach to national security.

According to Idris, the strategy combines intelligence, military operations, inter-agency coordination, and community engagement, alongside the use of modern security equipment and manpower.

“The government is using all the tools at its disposal to ensure every inch of Nigerian territory is secured,” Idris said. He emphasized that defeating terrorism requires not only military action but also information management, public awareness, and promotion of national unity.

Idris highlighted recent achievements, claiming that more than 13,500 terrorists have been neutralized, over 11,000 weapons recovered, and 124,000 insurgents and their families have surrendered in ongoing disarmament initiatives.

He also noted a significant decline in terrorism-related incidents in the last two years.

The Minister further stated that the government is open to international collaboration, including partnerships with countries like the United States, to strengthen counter-terrorism operations.

He also called on media organizations to report responsibly, stressing the importance of highlighting security successes while avoiding giving terrorists undue publicity.

“This is a comprehensive approach — using intelligence, technology, manpower, and community support — to defeat terrorism in Nigeria,” Idris said, adding that patriotism and public cooperation are critical components of the effort.

Security analysts say the government’s approach, combining kinetic operations with intelligence and public engagement, represents a shift toward integrated national security strategy, though independent verification of the numbers cited remains limited.

The federal government’s announcement comes amid ongoing challenges in the North-East, North-West, and North-Central regions, where insurgency, banditry, and violent crime continue to affect communities. Authorities are optimistic that the deployment of coordinated security measures will sustain recent gains and improve public safety across the country.
