Adamawa Govt Reaffirms Backing for Nigeria–Cameroon Border Demarcation

The Adamawa State Government has restated its commitment to ensuring a smooth and peaceful process as Nigeria and Cameroon move toward the next stage of their joint border demarcation exercise.

Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, made the pledge on Tuesday in Yola during a meeting with the Director General of the National Boundary Commission (NBC), Surveyor Adamu Adaji, who visited the state to provide updates on preparations for the forthcoming exercise.

Farauta explained that communities situated along the border had already been sensitised and encouraged to fully cooperate with officials from both countries to guarantee a hitch-free operation.

During the briefing, Adaji revealed that the commission had concluded the mapping of boundary locations and would commence physical demarcation in the coming year. He said the delegation’s visit was intended to keep the state leadership informed and sustain ongoing collaboration.

It is worth noting that the States Boundary Committees of states located along the Nigeria–Cameroon border recently named Farauta as Chairperson of their forum.

The member states include Adamawa, Borno, Taraba, Benue, Cross River and Akwa Ibom.

The deputy governor stressed that the forum remains essential to strengthening cross-border cooperation, adding that improved collaboration between Nigeria and Cameroon is crucial to the security and economic well-being of both countries.
