PDP Crisis Worsens as Wike-led NEC Expels Three Governors, Bode George; Dissolves Seven State EXCOs

The leadership crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) intensified on Tuesday as the National Executive Committee (NEC) aligned with the faction loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, announced the expulsion of key party figures, including three sitting governors and several senior stakeholders.

During the 103rd NEC meeting held at the PDP national secretariat in Abuja, the faction declared Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, and Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State expelled from the party.

Also expelled was prominent party leader and former Deputy National Chairman, Chief Bode George.

The NEC did not stop there. It also announced the suspension of additional high-ranking party members over what it described as persistent anti-party activities.

Those suspended include former Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT), Senator Adolphus Wabara; former Minister of Special Duties, Senator Kabiru Tanimu Turaki; and the Deputy National Chairman (South), Taofeek Arapaja, alongside several others accused of undermining the party’s unity and constitutional order.

In a sweeping structural overhaul, the NEC further ratified the dissolution of the State Executive Committees in Bauchi, Oyo, Zamfara, Yobe, Lagos, Edo, and Ekiti States, signalling a major shake-up intended to pave the way for caretaker leadership in those states.

Announcing the resolutions, the Acting National Chairman, Alhaji Mohammad Abdulrahman, who presided over the meeting, said the drastic decisions became necessary to restore discipline and strengthen internal cohesion.

Abdulrahman accused the affected governors and leaders of engaging in actions that violated the party’s constitution, including forming alliances with opposing political forces and deliberately weakening the PDP in their respective states.

The expulsions and suspensions represent one of the most decisive and contentious moves yet in the ongoing power struggle within the PDP, particularly as the party positions itself ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Political analysts warn that the widening rift between the Wike-backed faction and blocs loyal to many of the expelled leaders could push the party into deeper turmoil unless urgent reconciliation efforts are initiated.

Reactions continue to pour in as the PDP grapples with one of the most turbulent moments in its recent history.
