Anambra Government Approves ₦4.7bn Infrastructure Projects, Unveils Plans for Grand December Festivities

The Anambra State Government has approved multiple infrastructure contracts valued at approximately ₦4.7 billion, targeting roadworks, electrification, and other essential development initiatives across the state.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, who outlined key decisions reached during the 23rd State Executive Council (SEC) meeting held on Monday at the Light House, Awka.

According to Mefor, the Council not only ratified a range of capital projects, but also reviewed preparations for this year’s festive season, with the government introducing an initiative tagged “Onwa Dezemba”—a series of events designed to deliver an unforgettable Christmas experience for residents and visitors.

He explained that the celebrations will take place at both the Solution Fun City and the newly remodeled Ekwueme Square in Awka, featuring cultural displays, masquerade shows, Christmas carols, and musical concerts headlined by top Nigerian artistes.

Mefor stressed that the state government will continue to prioritize projects with significant economic and social impact, particularly those that address critical needs within communities.

The commissioner added that the Council reaffirmed its support for full university autonomy in selecting vice-chancellors and formally welcomed Prof. Ugochukwu Anyaehie, newly appointed Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University.

He also condemned rumours circulating about the alleged death of former Governor Willie Obiano, describing the reports as irresponsible and expressing gratitude that the former leader remains in good health.

Mefor noted that the administration remains committed to projects that enhance the wellbeing of Ndi Anambra while ensuring transparent and impactful governance.
