Mbappé, PSG Locked in Multi-Million Euro Legal Battle
French football superstar, Kylian Mbappé and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are facing off in a high-stakes legal battle, with claims and counterclaims totaling hundreds of millions of euros.
The dispute centers on unpaid wages, alleged mistreatment, and a blocked transfer deal.
Mbappé has filed a lawsuit against PSG, demanding €55 million in unpaid salaries and bonuses. He also filed a complaint alleging psychological harassment, claiming that after he declined to extend his contract in 2023, the club isolated him from first-team activities — a practice known in France as “the loft.”
According to his legal team, this sidelining damaged his career and breached contractual obligations.
PSG, in turn, is countersuing the forward for €240 million, claiming he acted disloyally by obstructing a potential €300 million transfer to Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia.
The club argues that Mbappé concealed his intentions and prevented them from capitalizing on a lucrative transfer, thereby causing substantial financial loss.
The case is being heard at a Paris labour court, with a ruling expected on December 16, 2025.
Earlier, Mbappé successfully secured a provisional freeze on approximately €55 million of PSG’s assets, though the club later obtained a court order lifting the freeze.
Legal experts say the dispute is significant not just for the amounts involved, but also for its implications on player-club relations.
The harassment claim could set a precedent in French football for how clubs may treat star players who refuse to renew contracts, while PSG’s countersuit underscores the financial stakes tied to high-profile transfers.
Both Mbappé and PSG are under intense public scrutiny, with the outcome likely to impact their reputations, financial interests, and how elite football contracts are managed across Europe.
