BBP Calls for Full Investigation on Alleged Assassination Attempt on Lt. Yerima
The Beyond Barracks Project (BBP) has strongly condemned the alleged assassination attempt on Lieutenant Yerima, urging security agencies to launch a full-scale and transparent investigation into the incident.
In a statement on Monday, the military advocacy group described the reported attempt on the officer’s life as “a direct affront to Nigeria’s sovereignty” and a dangerous development capable of undermining national stability.
The group warned that attacks or threats against serving military personnel could negatively affect troop morale and escalate public tension.
BBP called on authorities to identify and prosecute those behind the alleged plot “regardless of their social or political standing,” insisting that no individual or group should be above the law.
The organisation also urged security agencies to adopt preventative measures to ensure the safety of military officers across the country.
“We stand firmly with Lt. Yerima at this troubling time and reiterate our commitment to supporting the welfare and security of military families,” the statement said.
Reports had recently circulated alleging that unidentified armed men trailed Lieutenant Yerima in Abuja. While military sources say the matter is under review, the Federal Capital Territory Police Command has publicly denied receiving any complaint or record of an assassination attempt.
BBP, however, insisted that the allegations were serious enough to warrant a comprehensive investigation, stressing that clarity was necessary to dispel misinformation and maintain public trust in security institutions.
