Jigawa PDP Reaffirms Boycott of Ibadan Convention Disowns ‘Fake’ Delegates
The Jigawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has distanced itself from the factional national convention in Ibadan, warning that individuals claiming to represent the state as delegates are impostors.
State Chairman Aliyu Yahaya Gumel issued the disclaimer in a statement shared on his Facebook page late Saturday, insisting that no legitimate Jigawa delegate participated in the gathering.
He said the chapter’s boycott aligns with a Federal High Court judgment that reaffirmed former governor Sule Lamido’s right to contest the party’s chairmanship.
The court ruling—which also halted the Ibadan convention—was issued hours before the event commenced.
Gumel criticised those parading themselves as representatives of Jigawa, stressing that the chapter “remains committed to legal processes that unite, not divide, the party.”
“Some people are claiming to be elected delegates representing Jigawa in this ongoing factional purported convention,” he wrote. “These impostors do not represent us. Our chapter, under my leadership, has boycotted the event entirely.”
He said the decision underscores the state chapter’s loyalty to judicial directives and its resolve to support reconciliation efforts aimed at addressing the party’s widening internal crisis.
“We are saddened by the way our party affairs are being handled, especially the current crisis rocking its foundations,” he added.
“But we remain committed to unity. We call on leaders to engage all aggrieved stakeholders and find a solution.”
Gumel reiterated that the Jigawa PDP would only participate in processes that support genuine reconciliation, urging the public to disregard anyone posing as a delegate from the state.
“Any person claiming to be a delegate from Jigawa State is a fraudster,” he warned.
