Family Mourns as New Orleans Police Charge Man in Deadly Domestic Stabbing
New Orleans authorities have filed murder and attempted-murder charges against 27-year-old Chukwuebuka Eweni after a late-night domestic attack left his father dead and his two sisters injured at a home on Pebble Street.
Police said officers arrived at the residence around 9:59 p.m. on 11 November and found an unresponsive man with a fatal stab wound alongside two adult women suffering from knife injuries.
The victims were immediately taken to hospital, where one has since been discharged and the other remains under medical care but is expected to recover.
Relatives identified the deceased as Samuel Eweni, a computer sciences professor at Southern University at New Orleans. Family members told local media that the attack was “sudden and shocking”, noting that the suspect had a history of mental illness but had never previously displayed violent tendencies.
The New Orleans Police Department said Eweni was traced to Jefferson Parish, where he was taken into custody and placed under medical evaluation.
“Chukwuebuka Eweni has been located in Jefferson Parish. He is currently in law enforcement custody while undergoing medical evaluation at an area facility,” the NOPD said.
Detectives said they have secured a warrant for one count of second-degree murder and two counts of attempted second-degree murder, confirming that investigative findings firmly identified him as the attacker.
Police added that the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s formal identity and cause of death after the autopsy and notification of next of kin.
Authorities described the suspect as “armed and dangerous” during the manhunt but did not disclose whether he resisted arrest.
