Duke of Edinburgh to Host International Youth Forum in Nigeria, Promotes Award Expansion

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Foundation has announced plans to hold a major youth-focused forum in Lagos, Nigeria, highlighting the expansion of the globally recognized Duke of Edinburgh Award program.

The event, scheduled for November 2025, aims to engage young people across Africa, promote skills development, and strengthen the Award’s presence on the continent.

Prince Edward, the current Duke of Edinburgh, who chairs the International Foundation, will lead the initiative. The forum is designed to bring together youth leaders, educators, and policymakers to discuss strategies for empowering young people through life skills, vocational training, and personal development.

The Duke’s visit underscores the foundation’s commitment to fostering opportunities for youth who may not pursue traditional academic paths, ensuring that all young people can develop practical skills for the future.

The forum will also serve as a platform to showcase the achievements of Nigerian youth who have participated in the Duke of Edinburgh Award, highlighting success stories and innovative projects that exemplify the program’s impact.

While the event focuses on youth engagement and educational development, reports that the Duke of Edinburgh will meet with President Bola Tinubu have not been confirmed by official sources.

In recent months, the Duke of Edinburgh Foundation has strengthened its partnership with Nigeria’s Ministry of Education, aligning on initiatives to expand non-formal education and practical skill development across the country.

The Lagos forum is expected to further solidify this collaboration, providing a platform for knowledge exchange and international networking among young leaders.

The upcoming event represents a significant milestone for the Duke of Edinburgh Award in Nigeria, reinforcing its role in youth empowerment and demonstrating the foundation’s ongoing commitment to cultivating leadership, resilience, and personal growth among Africa’s next generation.
