Soludo Confirms Ex-Governor, Obiano Is Alive, Dismisses Death Rumour
Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has debunked viral social media claims alleging the death of former Governor Willie Obiano, describing the reports as entirely baseless and malicious.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, on Saturday, Soludo said he personally contacted Obiano and confirmed that the former governor is “alive, healthy, and in good spirits,” countering the widespread rumours suggesting he died in a London hospital.
The governor condemned the circulation of the false report, calling it a reckless act aimed at causing public distress.
He warned those spreading unverified information to desist, stressing that such behaviour undermines public trust and violates the ethics of responsible journalism.
Soludo urged media professionals, particularly online platforms, to verify facts through official and credible channels before publishing any news to prevent the spread of misinformation.
“The circulation of an unfounded death claim is not only irresponsible but deeply malicious,” the statement noted.“The public is advised to completely ignore the trending rumour and be assured that former Governor Obiano is alive and well.”
Governor Soludo also extended his best wishes to Obiano, praying for his continued good health, peace of mind, and long life.
