In Disciplinary Move, PDP Expels Wike, Fayose, Anyanwu, Others for Anti-Party Activities at Ibadan National Convention
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday took a historic disciplinary step at its 2025 National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, expelling several prominent members over alleged anti-party activities.
The decision, endorsed by an overwhelming majority of delegates, marks one of the most sweeping sanctions in the party’s recent history.
Those expelled include the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; former National Secretary of the PDP, Senator Samuel Anyanwu; former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose; Senior Advocate of Nigeria Kamaldeen Ajibade; Hon. Austin Nwachukwu; and a number of others whose names were listed in the convention’s disciplinary report.
According to party leaders, the expulsions were necessary to “restore unity, discipline, and ideological focus” within the PDP as it positions itself for the 2027 general elections. Party officials said repeated warnings were issued to the affected individuals, who were allegedly involved in actions considered detrimental to the party’s cohesion, electoral prospects, and overall stability.
A senior official at the convention described the move as “a decisive step toward rebuilding the PDP,” adding that persistent internal sabotage, factional alliances, and open defiance of party decisions had weakened the platform in recent years.
Delegates at the convention voted overwhelmingly in favour of the expulsions after reviewing the recommendations of the disciplinary committee. Party leaders emphasized that the measure was not targeted at personalities but at protecting the integrity and future of the PDP.
The development has already sparked intense reactions within political circles, with analysts noting that the expulsion of such influential figures could reshape alliances ahead of 2027. Party insiders also expect possible legal and political pushback from those affected.
Despite this, PDP officials maintain that the party is determined to enforce discipline, strengthen internal democracy, and rebuild public trust as it prepares for upcoming electoral contests.
More reactions are expected in the coming days as the expelled members respond to the convention’s decision.
