Cubana Lounge in Wuse II S2 Out After Court Enforcement

Obinna Iyiegbu, better known as Obi Cubana, has been removed from the Abuja location of his Cubana Lounge after a court order was executed on Friday.

Staffers were observed carrying equipment and belongings from the premises at Plot 81, Ademola Adetokunbo Crescent, Wuse II, while an enforcement notice was displayed at the entrance.

The eviction followed a judgment handed down by a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory sitting in Gwagwalada, which affirmed the ownership claim of Reverend Chidiebere Amakaeze over the property.

The court found that Rev. Amakaeze had purchased the site from a previous owner by way of a deed of assignment and power of attorney, and therefore granted him the right to possession.

The ruling directed that the current occupants surrender peaceful control of the building to the new owner.

Tension around the site has been simmering since early this year, when Rev. Amakaeze’s lawyers served quit notices alleging the tenant had defaulted on payments and that the lease had expired.

The notices asked that the lounge vacate within a short deadline and warned of legal action if the demand was not met.

Representatives for the estate insisted they had followed judicial channels to reclaim the asset.

But the matter has not been without dispute.

Administrators connected to the late owner’s estate previously denied that Cubana was a tenant of theirs and challenged the legitimacy of the initial eviction notices, calling some public reports misleading.

That earlier disagreement highlighted competing claims over the property long before Friday’s enforcement.

Court papers filed in the case show the judge not only awarded possession to the claimant but also ordered security agencies to assist in effecting the judgment where necessary, and imposed litigation costs on the defendants.

Video of the enforcement — circulated online — captured the scene as movers and employees cleared items from the building.

Representatives for Cubana Lounge and Obi Cubana did not immediately issue a public statement at the time of reporting. It remains unclear whether the outlet will seek further legal recourse or relocate operations.

Observers say the outcome is likely to trigger additional legal and commercial fallout as the parties assess next steps.
