We’ll Continue Visa, Citizen Services in Consulate, Embassy Across Nigeria, Confirms US

The United States Embassy and Consulate in Nigeria have announced that they are continuing to provide full American citizen services and visa services, assuring the public that scheduled appointments remain unaffected despite ongoing administrative constraints in the U.S. government.

In a statement released through its official communication channels, the U.S. Mission said that consular operations in Abuja and Lagos are proceeding as planned, including visa interviews, passport processing, and other essential services for both Nigerians and American citizens residing in the country.

The clarification followed concerns that a partial shutdown of the U.S. federal government might disrupt consular functions abroad. While the embassy confirmed that certain administrative activities — such as routine social-media updates — have been reduced, it emphasized that core services remain operational.

According to the Mission, visa processing and citizen services will continue “as the situation permits,” underscoring that consular agencies overseas are designed to maintain critical operations even during federal funding gaps.

The reassurance has come as a relief to applicants who feared cancellations or delays, especially given the high volume of Nigerians seeking travel, study, or work opportunities in the United States.

The Embassy encouraged the public to rely on official websites and email channels for accurate information, noting that real-time social-media activity may be limited until full administrative functions are restored.

With this update, the U.S. Mission has reiterated its commitment to sustaining essential diplomatic and consular services in Nigeria, ensuring that applicants and American citizens continue to receive uninterrupted support.
