Odogbolu LG Plans ₦3.5 Billion Truck Park to Boost Revenue, Create Jobs
The Odogbolu Local Government Area (LGA) in Ogun State has announced plans to construct a modern truck park valued at ₦3.5 billion, aimed at enhancing revenue generation, creating jobs, and improving logistics along the Sagamu–Benin Expressway.
The project, a collaboration between the LGA and 1st Truckstops Limited (TGroup), will be built on 17.8 hectares of land at Odogbolu Junction and is designed to accommodate over 300 heavy-duty trucks.
The truck park will feature a range of facilities, including secure parking bays, fueling stations, maintenance and repair yards, driver accommodations, restaurants, and recreational spaces.
According to the Odogbolu LGA Chairman, Dr. Babatunde Oyetola Diya, the facility will be technology-driven, incorporating cashless payment systems, advanced security measures, waste management solutions, and clean energy options such as CNG and LPG refueling.
He described the project as a landmark public-private partnership aimed at transforming the local economy while supporting the transport and logistics sector.
The truck park is expected to generate approximately ₦1 billion in annual turnover from the second year of operation, with an estimated ₦150 million in taxes to be shared among federal, state, and local governments. Employment opportunities will also be significant, with around 300 jobs during construction and 150 permanent positions upon completion.
Dr. Diya emphasized that the project is part of a broader vision to modernize infrastructure, attract investment, and improve safety for truck drivers who currently face limited parking and resting options along major highways. The LGA has also enacted enabling legislation to facilitate public-private partnerships, encouraging more investors to participate in local development initiatives.
Construction of the truck park is expected to take approximately 24 months, and officials say it could serve as a model for other LGAs seeking to boost revenue, create jobs, and enhance the efficiency of Nigeria’s freight transportation system.
The initiative has been widely welcomed as a potential boost to economic activity in Ogun State, particularly in the logistics and transportation sectors, while also addressing critical safety and operational challenges for truck drivers along one of the country’s busiest transport corridors.
