Wolves Appoint Rob Edwards as Head Coach on Three-and-a-Half-Year Deal

Wolverhampton Wanderers have officially appointed Rob Edwards as their new head coach, signing him on a three-and-a-half-year contract.

Edwards replaces Vítor Pereira, who was sacked after a difficult start to the 2025‑26 Premier League season.

The former Middlesbrough manager returns to Wolves, a club he has a long history with as a player, youth coach, and interim first-team coach.

Wolves confirmed that Middlesbrough agreed to release Edwards, with compensation reportedly settled between the two clubs.

Wolves chairman Jeff Shi expressed confidence in Edwards’ appointment, highlighting his deep connection to the club.

“Rob knows the club very well, he knows the city, he knows the fans. We are entering a new chapter, and we believe he is the right person to lead us forward,” Shi said.

Edwards faces the immediate challenge of turning around Wolves’ fortunes, as the team struggled at the start of the season, failing to secure a win in their opening 10 league matches.

The club hopes his familiarity with Wolves’ culture and history will allow him to implement a swift tactical and motivational reset.

Director Matt Jackson added that the focus is not only on survival in the Premier League but also on revitalizing the squad and restoring belief.

“We need to get that confidence and identity back into the team as quickly as possible,” he said.

Edwards is expected to take charge of his first match following the international break, with Wolves eager for a positive start under their new manager.

The club’s leadership has emphasized that this appointment is part of a long-term plan, aiming to stabilize the team while building for sustained Premier League success.

With a substantial contract and a clear mandate, Edwards’ tenure at Wolves will be closely watched, as fans and analysts alike hope he can steer the club out of its current slump and towards a more competitive and consistent future.
