Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, on Wednesday presented a proposed budget of ₦914.86 billion for the 2026 fiscal year, urging lawmakers to support his administration’s efforts to consolidate peace and deepen development across the state.
Presenting the appropriation bill titled “Budget of Consolidation and Shared Prosperity” before the Plateau State House of Assembly in Jos, Mutfwang said the proposal reflects his government’s determination to build on the gains made in stabilising the state and restoring citizens’ confidence.
The budget comprises ₦384.52 billion for recurrent expenditure and ₦530.34 billion for capital expenditure, with a strong emphasis on infrastructure development, agriculture, education, health, and youth empowerment.
Governor Mutfwang noted that peace and economic progress are inseparable, stressing that sustained collaboration among the executive, legislature, and judiciary is vital to achieving the administration’s vision of a united and prosperous Plateau.
“This budget is not just about figures; it is about consolidating peace, restoring hope, and creating shared prosperity for our people,” he said.
He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability in the implementation of the budget, assuring that projects will be targeted at communities most affected by past conflicts.
The presentation fulfills the requirement of Section 121(1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which mandates governors to lay the annual budget estimates before their respective state assemblies.
