Lagos Announces 8-Month Partial Closure of Lekki-Ajah Road for Rehabilitation

The Lagos State Government has announced an eight-month partial closure of sections along the Lekki–Ajah corridor to facilitate major rehabilitation and improvement works aimed at significantly easing traffic flow in the area.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed the timeline in a statement on Wednesday, indicating that the project is scheduled to run from Saturday, November 15, 2025, to Wednesday, July 15, 2026.

To minimize traffic disruption, the rehabilitation project, which has already commenced with preliminary works, will be carried out in two distinct phases.

During this initial phase, one lane will be closed to traffic, while motorists use the opposite lane. Once the work on the closed lane is completed, construction will shift to the opposite side. Osiyemi assured that motorists heading toward Lekki and Ajah will continue to have access throughout this period.

Vehicles moving from Ajah toward Lekki will be diverted to one lane while the other undergoes rehabilitation. When that first lane is completed, work will shift to the second.

The Commissioner guaranteed that movement toward Ajah will remain open at all times.

Osiyemi noted that specific sections of the corridor will experience partial closures for the entire eight-month rehabilitation period. He appealed to motorists and residents to remain patient and cooperate fully with traffic officials during the project.

“We urge road users to obey traffic officers and follow diversion signs as directed. These repairs are part of the Lagos State Government’s commitment to improving road infrastructure and ensuring safer, smoother journeys for everyone,” Osiyemi added.
