First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Launches ₦2.5 Billion Programme to Support Schoolgirls in Anambra

First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has launched a landmark initiative to support schoolgirls across the country, with a special focus on Anambra State. Under the “Flow With Confidence” programme, she allocated ₦2.5 billion to provide sanitary pads and promote menstrual health among young girls, aiming to ensure that menstruation does not disrupt their education.

As part of the rollout in Anambra, 10,000 packs of sanitary pads were distributed to schoolgirls in rural and underserved communities.

The initiative, implemented through the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), seeks to tackle the challenges of period poverty and absenteeism in schools caused by the lack of access to sanitary products.

Mrs. Tinubu emphasized that no girl should miss school because of her menstrual cycle. She noted that the programme not only provides essential sanitary products but also encourages confidence, dignity, and uninterrupted learning for adolescent girls.

“With ‘Flow With Confidence,’ we are giving our girls the tools to stay in school, focus on their studies, and pursue their dreams without shame or interruption,” she said.

The sanitary pads were procured from Uniglory Nigeria Ltd, a local manufacturer in Ikorodu, Lagos, supporting domestic production and creating jobs. The programme targets approximately 370,000 schoolgirls nationwide, with each state and the Federal Capital Territory expected to receive around 10,000 packs, distributed through state first ladies and RHI coordinators to ensure transparency and reach.

Community involvement has been central to the initiative. Local government chairmen, traditional rulers, and religious leaders have been mobilized to assist in the distribution, ensuring that the sanitary products reach the intended beneficiaries and are not sold or diverted.

The programme’s launch in Anambra State is part of a nationwide rollout, with other states receiving supplies in phases.

The initiative aligns with global efforts to combat period poverty and emphasizes the link between menstrual health and educational attainment for girls.

By combining health, education, and economic empowerment, the “Flow With Confidence” programme represents a comprehensive approach to addressing barriers to girl‑child education. Its success will be measured not only by the number of sanitary pads distributed but also by the continued engagement of communities and the sustained presence of support systems for adolescent girls.

With this initiative, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu underscores her commitment to ensuring that every Nigerian girl has the opportunity to pursue her education with dignity, confidence, and uninterrupted focus.
