Ex-Chelsea Star, Oscar Hospitalised After Heart Scare, Now in Stable Condition

Former Chelsea and Brazil midfielder Oscar dos Santos Emboaba Júnior, popularly known as Oscar, has been hospitalised in São Paulo, Brazil, following a heart-related incident during a training session with his current club, São Paulo FC.

The 34-year-old footballer reportedly collapsed and lost consciousness for about two minutes while undergoing pre-season fitness tests. Medical staff immediately rushed to his aid and transported him to the hospital, where he is currently under observation.

In an official statement, São Paulo FC confirmed the incident, saying:

“During the physical tests carried out at our training ground, athlete Oscar presented a cardiological incident. He was promptly attended to by our medical team and transferred to hospital for further evaluation. He is now in stable condition and undergoing detailed tests.”

Doctors at the hospital described Oscar’s condition as stable but closely monitored, noting that further examinations are being conducted to determine the cause of the cardiac irregularity.

Oscar, who began his professional career at Internacional in Brazil, gained global prominence at Chelsea, where he won the Premier League and Europa League before moving to the Chinese Super League in 2017.

He returned to Brazil this year, signing for São Paulo FC in what was seen as a major homecoming for the midfielder.

Reports from Spanish outlet Cadena SER suggest that Oscar is considering retirement if medical evaluations confirm a serious heart condition.

The player’s representatives have not yet issued a statement regarding his future in football.

Fans and former teammates have flooded social media with messages of support and concern, wishing him a full recovery. Chelsea’s official fan pages and several former club players also expressed relief at news that he is now stable.

Oscar’s health scare comes amid growing awareness about cardiac safety in football, following similar incidents involving players such as Christian Eriksen and Sergio Aguero. Sports analysts have emphasized the importance of thorough medical screening and rest periods for professional athletes, particularly during intensive training sessions.

For now, São Paulo FC has suspended all media activities related to the player until doctors complete his evaluation. The club stated that its priority is Oscar’s well-being, not his immediate return to football.

If cleared medically, Oscar could resume training in the coming weeks; however, if tests reveal a risk, a decision on his playing career may follow.

The football world remains hopeful that the talented playmaker, known for his creativity and technical brilliance, will make a full and safe recovery.
