All Super Eagles Funds Remitted to NFF, Says NSC DG

The Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olapade, has responded to the recent training boycott by the Super Eagles, clarifying that all funds allocated to the national football team have been duly remitted to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) since he assumed office.

Speaking in response to concerns over the team’s unpaid allowances and logistics issues that prompted the players’ decision to suspend training, Olapade stressed that the NSC’s role ends at funding the federation.

He emphasized that the NSC does not disburse money directly to players or team officials, as all financial transactions for national football matters are handled exclusively through the NFF.

“The NSC has remitted the funds to NFF as at when due since I became DG. Can’t be contradicted. NSC pays to the NFF and all expenditures for their activities is done by them.

Up until yesterday, there has not been a reason to query. So wait and see. All I can say for now,” he stated.

Olapade was appointed as the Director-General of the National Sports Commission on November 14, 2024.

The Super Eagles and the NFF have been embroiled in recurring disputes over unpaid bonuses and allowances for years, often distracting the team before major competitions.

A significant intervention occurred in January 2025 when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved the payment of a massive ₦12 billion backlog owed to the team and other national squads, including the Super Falcons and youth teams, covering outstanding match bonuses and allowances.

The then Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh, confirmed the funds were released to the ministry to settle these obligations.

Furthermore, in May 2025, the National Sports Commission had announced that all outstanding payments to the Super Eagles had been settled. At that time, the Commission’s chairman, Shehu Dikko, confirmed that all bonuses had been promptly paid following the team’s March 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
