Adamawa Approves ₦23 Billion for Stadium Completion, Road Networks, and Street Lighting
The Adamawa State Executive Council, led by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, has approved over ₦23 billion for a crucial package of infrastructure projects aimed at improving the state capital, Yola.
The approvals were granted during the Council’s meeting on Wednesday at the Government House.
A significant portion of the budget is dedicated to the completion of the Adamawa State International Sports Complex.
According to Dr. Umar Pella, Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Phase 2 of the sports complex was approved at a cost of ₦3.6 billion, divided into five lots.
Dr. Pella noted that Phase 1 of the project is progressing smoothly, moving the state closer to having its first modern stadium capable of hosting national teams, thus ending the reliance on stadiums in neighboring states like Gombe.
Governor Fintiri had previously expressed his determination to create a fitting venue, declaring over a year ago: “The era of going to the neighbouring states to play games is over.”
The Council also greenlit several critical projects for road construction and urban aesthetics in the Jimeta axis of Yola:
* Street Lighting: ₦1.3 billion was approved for the procurement and installation of solar-powered streetlights along major arteries, including Galadima Aminu Way, Gimba Dual Carriageway, Bekaji Dual Carriageway, Mubi Road, and the A.A. Lawan Flyover.
* Road Construction and Rehabilitation: ₦13 billion was approved for the construction, rehabilitation, and expansion of several key routes, including Abdullahi Bashir Waziri Street, Bekaji Road, Popule Street and its links, as well as GGSS Yola internal roads.
* Jimeta Shopping Mall: An additional ₦5.6 billion was approved for supplementary works and services at the ongoing Jimeta Ultra-Modern Shopping Mall Project, covering road networks, drainage systems, landscaping, and solar-powered streetlights.
Rounding off the approvals, the State Executive Committee granted ₦212 million for consultancy services related to the design and post-design of perimeter fences and gatehouses at the palaces of the newly created chiefdoms, along with the construction of the Adamawa Traditional Rulers Secretariat Complex.
