South-East Witnessing Development, Inclusion Under Tinubu, Says Kalu

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has hailed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for promoting development and inclusion in Nigeria’s South-East region.

He made the remarks during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Abia Airport project in Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area, Abia State.

Kalu emphasized that the South-East, which has historically raised concerns about marginalization, is now benefiting from federal interventions and strategic investments.

“Under President Tinubu, the South-East is feeling the touch of inclusion, investment, and renewed hope,” he said.

Highlighting key initiatives, Kalu pointed to the establishment of the South-East Development Commission (SEDC) in July 2024, which aims to coordinate and implement development projects across the region. He also cited the allocation of substantial funding for the Eastern Rail Line, linking key hubs such as Onitsha, Aba, and Enugu, with an estimated $3 billion investment.

In addition, Kalu referenced ongoing projects in energy, housing, and education, including gas pipeline developments, housing estates under the Renewed Hope Agenda, and student loan programs targeting South-East youths. These interventions, he said, reflect the administration’s commitment to equitable development and addressing longstanding infrastructural gaps in the region.

Kalu urged residents of the South-East to support the federal government’s initiatives, asserting that the projects would generate jobs, enhance regional connectivity, and improve the overall standard of living.

While many of the projects are at various stages of planning and execution, the Deputy Speaker maintained that they signal a new era of inclusion and progress for the South-East under President Tinubu’s leadership.

Analysts note that these efforts are part of a broader strategy by the federal government to demonstrate national cohesion and equitable resource distribution, addressing historical perceptions of regional marginalization and fostering long-term socio-economic development.
