First Lady Donates ₦250 Million to NIPSS, Inaugurates Gender and Policy Centre
The First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, has donated ₦250 million to the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, Plateau State, while inaugurating a new Gender and Public Policy Studies Centre within the institute.
The centre, named in honour of the First Lady, is designed to strengthen research, training, and policy formulation on gender issues, aiming to promote inclusivity and equitable development across the nation. Speaking at the event, Oluremi Tinubu emphasized the critical role of women in national growth, stating that empowering women contributes to the prosperity of the entire society. NIPSS is a beacon of intellectual excellence and strategic leadership in our nation. I am humbled by your decision to name this centre in my honour. May this centre stand as a lasting symbol of our collective resolve to build a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria,” she said Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State praised the initiative, highlighting that gender issues must no longer be just a subject of discussion but a national priority. He further noted that legislative inclusivity, including increased representation for women, remains essential for the country’s progress. Established in 1979, NIPSS has long been a strategic hub for policy development and leadership training in Nigeria. The creation of the gender and public policy centre within the institute marks a significant step toward institutionalising gender-focused research and advocacy at the highest levels of government. The ₦250 million donation is expected to fund research, capacity-building programmes, and initiatives that translate gender-focused studies into actionable policies. Observers note that the centre’s success will depend on effective implementation and sustained support from both government and private stakeholders. Oluremi Tinubu’s intervention underscores the renewed focus on gender inclusion and public policy in Nigeria, aligning with the administration’s broader agenda of national development and societal equity.
