The Guardian’s Adaku Onyenucheya, FCID’s Morufu Animashaun Honoured at NMCA 2025
The 2025 edition of the National Media Community Awards (NMCA) celebrated outstanding contributions in journalism and legal service, with Adaku Onyenucheya of The Guardian and Morufu Animashaun of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) receiving top honours.
Adaku Onyenucheya, a renowned maritime reporter, was presented with the Award of Excellence in Maritime Reporting for her work highlighting Nigeria’s ports, maritime safety, and the blue economy, which has enhanced public understanding of a sector vital to national trade and economic growth.
Morufu Animashaun was recognised as Outstanding Legal Icon for his exceptional contributions to law enforcement and prosecution, reflecting a career marked by dedication, integrity, and professionalism.
The NMCA ceremony, organised by Media Community Network Africa in collaboration with Daily Pride Communications, took place at the NERDC Conference Centre in Ikeja, Lagos, and brought together media professionals, government representatives, and stakeholders from various sectors.
During the event, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Zone 2, Adegoke Fayoade, commended Onyenucheya for effectively highlighting the challenges and opportunities in Nigeria’s maritime sector.
Other honourees at the awards included Ojotu Ojema, Member of the House of Representatives for Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency, Benue State; Stephen Olukayode, Member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Oshodi/Isolo Constituency 1; and officers in maritime enforcement such as CSP Mariam Ogunmolasuyi and Supol Adepoju Adeniyi.
The recognition of Onyenucheya and Animashaun underscores the importance of specialised journalism and dedicated legal service in shaping public policy, promoting accountability, and contributing to national development.
By spotlighting excellence in media and law enforcement, the NMCA aims to motivate professionals across Nigeria to uphold high standards in their respective fields, celebrate individual achievements, strengthen institutional credibility, and inspire the next generation of journalists and legal practitioners.
