Nigerian Troops Rescue 86 Kidnapped Victims, Foil Terrorists’ Ambush, Arrest 29 Logistics Suppliers in Borno
In a significant counterinsurgency operation, Nigerian troops have rescued 86 kidnapped victims, foiled a planned terrorists’ ambush, and arrested 29 individuals identified as logistics suppliers to insurgent groups in Borno State.
The operation was conducted under the auspices of the Nigerian Army’s ongoing Operation HADIN KAI, which targets militant activities and support networks in the northeast.
According to an official statement from the Nigerian Army, the rescue mission took place in areas long plagued by insurgent kidnappings and attacks. Troops intercepted a coordinated ambush designed by terrorist elements, preventing what could have been a major attack on both military and civilian targets.
The mission successfully freed civilians who had been held hostage, highlighting the army’s renewed focus on safeguarding vulnerable communities in the region.
In addition to rescuing the victims, security forces apprehended 29 individuals accused of providing logistical support to militants. These alleged suppliers reportedly facilitated the insurgents’ operations by delivering food, fuel, ammunition, and other essential materials. Military analysts say that targeting such support networks is crucial for weakening insurgent groups’ operational capabilities and restricting their mobility in remote areas.
Borno State has long been a stronghold for extremist groups such as Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), which exploit waterways, islands, and forested corridors for attacks, abductions, and territorial control.
The Nigerian Army emphasized that operations like this one aim not only to rescue victims but also to dismantle the infrastructure that sustains militant activities.
While the army did not provide casualty figures among the insurgents, the scale of the rescue and the arrests signal a boost in operational effectiveness and serve as a warning to militants and their networks.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to continuing operations aimed at clearing remote hideouts, securing key routes, and disrupting the support systems that allow insurgent groups to thrive.
The successful operation is seen as a morale booster for both the Nigerian military and the local population, underscoring the ongoing efforts to restore stability and security to Borno State and other affected areas in the northeast.
